Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – In response to the recent directive issued by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia stands in full support of the government’s call for government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) to reduce overseas investments and prioritise the domestic market.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s emphasis on redirecting investments towards the domestic market aligns with the foundation’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and economic development within Malaysia. We believe that a strong focus on domestic investments will contribute significantly to the nation’s economic growth, job creation, and overall prosperity.
Chairman of Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia Nitesh Malani, acknowledges the need for flexibility, as mentioned by the Prime Minister, in allowing GLCs and GLICs to make investments abroad if there is a justified requirement. This strategic approach ensures that Malaysia remains competitive on the global stage while prioritising the development and growth of our local industries.
We also appreciate the Prime Minister’s call for GLICs and GLCs to align their investments with the New Industrial Master Plan and the National Energy Transition Roadmap. This forward-thinking approach is crucial for driving innovation, sustainability, and technological advancement in our country. As KUSKOP is aligned to drive entrepreneurship, it has to be given priority in executing key initiatives says Nitesh Malani.
Furthermore, Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia echoes Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call for GLICs and GLCs to take on a larger corporate responsibility in national development. Corporate entities should not only focus on profits but also contribute meaningfully to the welfare of their employees and the overall development of the nation.
In line with the Prime Minister’s request, Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia encourages GLICs and GLCs to submit detailed reports within a month, outlining their plans related to investment, Bumiputera participation, staff accommodation, and education enhancement, including the quality of education.
Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia believes that this collaborative effort between the government and the private sector will propel Malaysia towards becoming a regional economic powerhouse, with inclusive growth benefiting all segments of society.
